SACRED EARTH
featuring John Hurford, Marcelle Milo-Grey, Keng Wai Lee, Joe Webster, Tina Tiana, Emma Lamb , Caroline Mercer 12 Sep - 31 Oct 2025 Renowned for his vibrant wild botanical paintings, John Hurford presents an exciting new body of work, much of it inspired by the lush countryside and tangled hedgerows around his North Devon farm. Joe Webster, known for his love of wild, untamed landscapes, paints en plein air, allowing him to quietly observe and connect with nature as he works.
A firm favourite at the gallery, Marcelle Milo-Gray returns with her richly detailed and imaginative paintings. Her pieces often depict beloved animals and birds from folklore, as well as whimsical garden scenes, meadows and enchanted tea parties - moments both real and imagined.
New to the gallery, Emma Lamb introduces thought-provoking 3D works crafted on handmade paper. Her art encourages reflection on the effects of climate change, pollution and the damage we humans inflict on our fragile planet.
We’re also delighted to welcome two artists living in the UK but originally from the Far East. Keng Wai Lee from Malaysia shares a new series of brightly coloured, nature-inspired paintings. And Chinese, Tina Tian who specialises in traditional brush painting, calligraphy and mineral pigment techniques, explores themes of nature, wildlife, and ancient legend.
There will also be some fabulous pottery showcasing spiritits of the local areas , a mixture of myth and folklore, native animals and sea creatures that Caroline Mercer has crafted.
For the duration of Sacred Earth, The Brownston Gallery is proud to support Till the Coast is Clear, a community interest company dedicated to tackling shoreline plastic pollution and leading nature regeneration projects. APERTURE OF DREAMS
9 May - 20 Jun 2025 For our second exhibition of the year I have chosen four artists who have each created a unique collection of paintings that will immerse you in their storytelling, taking you on a colourful and magical journey.
Kate Westbrook, a talented musician and artist, has produced a wonderful series of detailed paintings depicting scenes relating to the myth about Diana and Actaeon.
Fernando Asian, a popular surrealist artist who was forced to flee Venezuela in 2019 due to political unrest, is showcasing some astonishing large paintings full of the intensity and vivid colours that he is famous for internationally.
New to the gallery, Connor McIntyre is well known for his acting roles in theatre, film and television and only discovered his artistic talent at the age of fifty. The paintings that Connor is showing are inspired by the "shifting weather systems of the mind - where memory, myth and melancholy collide. They invite viewers to navigate a terrain that's as much about feeling as form." His work is held in private and institutional collections worldwide.
The second artist also exhibiting for the first time, is Jo Thorne who specialises in contemporary expressionist painting. Jo describes her work as "visual narratives that explore human connection through abstract painting and experimentation." She cleverly uses colour and expressive mark-making to spark a connection with the viewer.
Apertures of Dreams offers visitors a chance to enjoy some exceptional artwork and an opportunity to indulge in a bit escapism. Read more -
