Japan has a certain delicacy to the texture of its natural fabric that over time has inspired the style of so many Japanese artists, such as Katsushika Hokusai and as we scaled the mountains surrounding Hakuba this long and deep cornice, built up in the Japanese by the prevailing winds howling over from Siberia and across the Sea of Japan, reminded me of Hokusai’s great work.
