The Brownston Gallery is delighted to present the South West Academy Spring Exhibition, showcasing outstanding work by seven distinguished Academicians — Kate Aggett, Ken Cosgrove, Phil Creek, Carolyn King, Shirley Kirkcaldy, Karen Popham and James Tatum — alongside some beautiful paintings depicting Devon's North Coast by Jennifer Schamotta, winner of The Brownston Prize 2025.

Four of the exhibiting Academicians are represented by the gallery. Ken Cosgrove is showing a mix of atmospheric oil paintings, ranging from landscapes and boats to floral still lifes, and there is some fabulous new work by Phil Creek.   Carolyn King, much loved for her talent for turning the everyday into something that makes you smile, presents a fun, new collection of work and Karen Popham, an artist who enjoys telling a story, is exhibiting a varied selection of still lifes and local landscapes.

The remaining three Academicians are new to the gallery. Kate Aggett, a collage artist whose lifelong fascination with colour and textiles is reflected in her inventive choice and use of materials in her work. Dartmoor-based Shirley Kirkcaldy captures the shifting moods of land and sea in her evocative contemporary landscapes, while James Tatum skilfully blends light, shadow and movement, bringing his scenes vividly to life.
