"My inspiration comes from the shapes and rhythm of the natural world. I love the seasons and from my palette I mix and create the colours, using the paint to translate what I see and feel onto the canvas."

Joanna's love of colour and light originates from her early years spent in Australia, where she grew up surrounded by music and art. She studied at the Heatherly School of Art, London with various tutors including Robin Child. She is inspired by many 20th century artists but especially Joan Eardley, Ivon Hitchens and Nicola de Stael. Her own paintings sit between figurative and abstract; the colours and how they interact with each other being so important to her.

Joanna has lived in Devon for over thirty years and exhibits regularly throughout the South West and London.

Jo was born in 1955 in Australia and moved to England in 1966. She has lived in Devon for 40 years bringing up her family and painting from her studio in East Devon.

Jo exhibits in galleries in London and Devon.

She is inspired to paint by the beauty of the landscape around her and garden flowers. It is an emotional response to nature with colour and composition, translating what she sees onto the canvas. She scratches and draws into the paint using intuition and imagination.
Artist that have influenced Jo’s work include Joan Eardley, Ivon Hitchens and Joan Mitchell.
